(Last Updated On: July 19, 2022)Best Vegan Chocolate Frosting Recipe
This vegan chocolate frosting recipe is the most rich, decadent icing ever!
It only takes fifteen minutes to make and is perfect for frosting cakes, cookies, brownies and more.
This frosting is smooth enough for frosting with a knife, yet thick and sturdy enough for some fancy piping as well.
This chocolate and vanilla buttercream is as good as it gets!
Chocolate buttercream has always been my weakness, with its rich chocolate flavor that is so smooth and sweet.
My favorite way to enjoy this frosting is on some fluffy chocolate cupcakes, and the combination is always my go to for parties or get togethers of any kind.
It’s also the best thing for even the biggest chocolate cravings – this chocolaty frosting will not disappoint.
This frosting is so quick and easy to put together and only needs a few very basic pantry ingredients along with some vegan butter sticks.
I added some vanilla and the lightest sprinkle of salt to really create a deep, rich flavor.
You can also use cacao instead of cocoa if you’d like – this will create a bit sharper of a chocolate flavor, which is delicious if you like dark chocolate!

How to Make Vegan Buttercream Frosting
Mixing the Ingredients
To make this easy frosting recipe, start by creaming together the room-temperature vegan butter, cocoa powder, vanilla and salt.
I highly recommend using an electric mixer for this part, but if you only have a whisk you can mix rigorously by hand.
When the butter is creamy, add a tiny bit of plant milk and then add in the powdered sugar one cup at a time.
Mix until smooth in between each cup until all the powdered sugar is incorporated.
If you need a little more plant milk afterwards to make it more spreadable you can mix it in now, but you want to add as little as possible for a nice and thick frosting.
Ways to Use Chocolate Frosting
That’s it – your frosting is ready to be added to cakes, brownies, cupcakes, cookie cakes or anything else that might need some frosting!
You can simply spread it with a butter knife, frosting spatula, or add it into a piping bag to make pretty designs.
If you don’t have a piping bag, you can also add it into a Ziploc bag and snip off a tiny piece of the corner!
Rich Vegan Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
You’re going to love this super simple yet irresistible buttercream frosting recipe, and no one will ever know it’s completely dairy free.
It’s the smoothest, creamiest, most decadent chocolate icing ever.
Also, if you do follow a vegan diet be careful that the powdered sugar you use is vegan, as not all brands are.
I usually always opt for the Wholesome brand, but most organic brands should be fine, just do a little research if you want to be sure of the brand.
