Vegan French Toast Recipe
This easy homemade vegan french toast is so delicious and quick to make!
It has a very simple batter of only 5 ingredients to dip your bread in, and then you just lightly fry it until it’s golden.
It’s perfect for busy mornings or a midnight snack!
Completely dairy-free and made with sweet and creamy coconut milk and cinnamon, this french toast is packed with flavor with minimal effort.I topped my french toast with dairy-free butter, blueberries, powdered sugar and maple syrup!
You can add any sort of toppings you’d like, some others I love are strawberries, coconut flakes or dairy-free chocolate chips.
They are also perfectly delicious plain though!
Easy Coconut Milk French Toast
Many traditional versions of french toast use eggs to help bind everything together.
For this recipe I added a sprinkle of flour to help act as a binder, and I used full-fat coconut milk from a can.
You can use any kind of plant milk in a pinch, but the canned coconut milk adds such a nice creamy consistency to the batter, and is a bit thicker which works better for coating and cooking the bread.
This vegan french toast recipe is crisp on the outside with a soft and delicious center.
Made with flavors of cinnamon and vanilla and just the right amount of sweet!
How to Make Vegan French Toast
Preparing the Bread Batter
To make this easy french toast recipe, mix together the coconut milk, flour, vanilla, cinnamon and sugar until smooth.
I like to use a whisk to help things come together easily.
Coating and Cooking French Toast
Then heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat and wait until it heats up.
Now dip the bread into the batter on both sides (If you have a light bread like sandwich bread, I don’t recommend soaking it. If the bread is heartier like from a bakery, you can soak it for 5-8 seconds per side, just be careful not to over soak), gently shake off excess and place on the pan.
Cook for 2-5 minutes per side, or until nicely golden and crisp.
If your bread seems to be cooking too fast, turn down the heat a pinch to help the batter cook evenly throughout.
Repeat with remaining slices!

- 4-5 Slices of Thick Bread
- 1 Cup Coconut Milk (full-fat from a can)*
- 2 Tbsp All-Purpose Flour
- 1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1 Tsp Vanilla
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- Mix together the coconut milk, flour, cinnamon, vanilla and sugar until smooth.
- Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat and wait until it's hot.
- Dip bread in batter on both sides**and gently shake off any excess, then place on the pan. Cook for 2-5 minutes per side, or until browned and crispy. If you find the bread is browning too fast, turn down the heat a bit to help all the batter cook throughout.
- Repeat with remaining slices and serve with maple syrup and toppings of choice!
*If you don't have canned coconut milk, you can use any kind of plant milk you have on hand, the batter just won't be quite as rich and thick. I highly recommend the canned coconut milk for this reason!
**If you have a light bread like thickly sliced sandwich bread, I don't recommend soaking it. If the bread is heartier like from a bakery, you can soak it for 5-8 seconds per side, just be careful not to over soak.
