Baked Apples with Oat Crumble Topping
Apples are such a tasty fruit to bake with – they have such a classic sweet flavor and are so well complimented with comforting spices.
I also love the combined textures of the crunchy crumble topping and the soft baked apples.
I added just a sprinkle of flour to help the apple mixture be just a pinch thicker, as well as flavors of brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, with a small splash of lemon juice for freshness and to preserve the apples.
Another great part of this recipe is how AMAZING your home will smell while it bakes!
The fruit and spices release the best aroma, and the golden brown final result is almost too pretty to cut into.
How to Make Easy Homemade Apple Crisp
Preparing the Oat Topping
To make this yummy baked apple dessert, start by adding your dry topping ingredients to a bowl, and mix them together well.
Add the cold, cubed vegan butter (be sure to use butter sticks and not from a tub), and cut it in with a pastry cutter or two forks.
Once it has a crumbly texture place it in the fridge while you preparing the filling.
Preparing the Spiced Apple Filling
Now, peel your apples, chop around the core and toss the core out.
Cut the apples into slices and add them to a large bowl – this will take a few minutes, but it’ll be worth it!
Add the remaining filling ingredients and toss well to evenly coat the apples.
How to Bake and Serve Apple Crisp
Now, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
Pour your apple slices into a deep 8×8 inch pan (or 8 inch circle), sprayed with non-stick spray.
Gently press them down to remove any gaps, then sprinkle your crumble topping all over the apples and gently press down.
Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
Allow to cool for at least 10 minutes, and then serve warm with dairy-free vanilla ice cream on top!

Notes
*You can also use whole oats, but I like the texture better with the smaller quick oats. You can also place whole oats in a blender and pulse them just a couple times to break them up a bit.
